Grass was established as the State Grass of Colorado in 1987. It is also called Blue Grama. This is a native prairie grass that can take as long as fifty years to re-establish itself if plowed under or otherwise disturbed. It has a denser shallower root mass which hold the topsoil in place and keeps it from blowing away. This grass sorta holds the prairie together. Much of our grassland has disappeared with the advance of technology.
So as you are doing your landscaping in the mountains, take a look around and try to leave and or incorporate the native grass which mother nature intended to stay in the mountains.
